BACKGROUND HISTORY<\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n

The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019Op\u00e9rations Maritimes et Fluviales<\/strong> (abbreviated as SOMEF) was founded in 1920 by Ougr\u00e9e-Marihaye, a Li\u00e8ge-based steel maker. With two places of business in Li\u00e8ge and Antwerp and a subsidiary in Rotterdam, this company was already engaged in all port operations, maritime and waterway transport.<\/p>\n

Some important dates for the Li\u00e8ge site:<\/p>\n

1988<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Acquisition of concession at the covered dock of Li\u00e8ge:\u00a0 we became handlers<\/p>\n

1993<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Management of the Cockerill Sambre halls: we become handlers in plants<\/p>\n

1995<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Creation of the Charleroi chartering office<\/p>\n

1997<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Obtaining of the contract on the Eurogal site, \u00a0galvanised steel production<\/p>\n

1998<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Entry in the Usinor group<\/p>\n

1999<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Creation of the Tournai office<\/p>\n

2001<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Demerger of SOMEF<\/p>\n

  • The Antwerp site joins SATEM (Usinor subsidiary). After the merger, it will ultimately become ARCELOR LOGISTICS BELGIUM.<\/li>\n
  • The Li\u00e8ge site becomes autonomous.\u00a0 The new company created will assume the current name of \u201cSomef<\/em><\/strong> .\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    2002<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Entry in the ARCELOR group<\/p>\n

    2005\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> The Compagnie Fran\u00e7aise de Navigation Rh\u00e9nane (CFNR) acquires 40% of the shares of \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Somef.<\/p>\n

    2007\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 CFNR\u00a0 acquires 70% of the company\u2019s shares; the remaining 30% are still held by the \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0ArcelorMittal Group.<\/p>\n

    2010<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 CFNR acquires Deschieter in Ghlin where our Charleroi office is established (1 charterer).<\/p>\n

    2015<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 The HES group in Rotterdam becomes the principal shareholder.<\/p>\n

    2024\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>The HES group sells the company Deschieter. <\/span><\/p>\n

    2024<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 The belgian society Shipit Multimodal Logistics in Antwerpen becomes the principal shareholder.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
